I’m excited to be showing some of my Australian-based street photography at the 2012 Head On Photo Festival as part of the Documentary Exhibition at Global Gallery. My prints accepted into the show are from a project called “Flat White, Short Black” that I completed photographing while living in Melbourne and Sydney in 2011 during a sixth month stay down under. The exhibit was curated by award winning documentary photographer, Stephen Dupont. Sadly, I can’t return for the exhibition but I’m sure the opening night will be a blast.

More information is available at the Head On Calendar or you can register for the event via our ASP Facebook page.

Fred Herzog Retrospective

We in Vancity may not know it yet but the city’s people have been blessed – twice-over. The first blessing was a trailblazing documentary photographer who was sufficiently curious about his fellow citizens to photograph them in real, unposed situations. The second blessing came by way of a local gallery (The Equinox Gallery) unveiling of a phenomenal new venue, the Equinox Project Space, featuring this same photographer’s work. Today, I had the pleasure of viewing Fred Herzog’s photographic legacy as well a happenstance opportunity to talk about Fred Herzog’s street photography with the legend himself in an [more]

Empty Cup: A Case of Copyright Infringement [Update 3]

It was on a late summer stroll through London that my friend passed by The Photographers’ Gallery, where he saw a beautiful woman sitting inside the newly renovated street level café. There she was, alone with a book, stroking her long, jet-black hair. A cup sat within hand’s reach but empty; it’s her stare that lasts. But this wasn’t a real woman, a real book, or a real café. At least, not in London. What my friend saw was a photograph I made more than two years prior and half a world away. My friend shot me [more]
